Sammy Sam....

Before the eval we took Sam to the playground at the lake. He had such a blast climbing up and crawling to the slide and then going down the slide! Over and over and over again! Daddy picked Sam up because Sam slid down the slide backwards and he was not happy. "He's wet" Of course I didn't think to pack an extra outfit. Took him to the car expecting his pull up to be soaked and leaking. Yet it was dry. He got his pants wet from the slide. I didn't think that it would be wet from all the rain we have had the past 2 days. Being that it was a beautiful day out with a chill in the air I wasn't thinking. The sunshine and blue skies threw me off. Because of the chill we left there with Sam kicking and screaming wanting to play. I took his pants to the laundry mat and dried his pants. Then Sam and I walked from there to KLS for the eval and daddy went to work. It's only 2 blocks. 2 blocks and I felt like I was going to die. Mind you I used to walk at least 5 miles a day 3 yrs ago when we lived in town. I even walked that while pregnant with Sam. It was odd that 2 blocks left me like that. I need to start walking again.

Anyways we got there a half hour early. Which was good because we were able to start right away! Sam was upset at first because he wanted to go play on the playground they have there. But that was forgotten once we entered the gym! At first he was shy and would not have anything to do with being put down once everyone was there and it was time to start. I sat down and they gave him a ball to play with and that was the end of him being shy. While he played with the ball I answered questions. Then it came time for him to go into the eval room. They wanted him to go by himself but I was not sure if he would or not. Either way it would not matter because I am allowed in there with him. They were able to trick him into going. They had him open the door and throw the ball in and then go get the ball. And the team went in right behind him! I was able to sit and watch the whole thing! I was in another room with a window so I could see and a baby monitor so I could listen. I also had questionaires to fill out. Sam was hilarious during the eval! He made funny faces and did things that were funny. At one point they have him circles, squares and triangles big and little ones. They wanted him to put the little ones on the big ones. He dropped the small circle on the table and it vibrated and spun around. He did that over and over and over each time they told him to put it on the big one. Sam was a real trooper! After that they tried to see him get mad to see if he really does hit like I say he does. Being that everyone was watching him each time I told him No and took the ball away he would just run off and find another ball. Alone he would have hit me for taking it away and telling him no. They gave up and just took my word for it and left the gym so they could figure out the results so they could tell me. They should have stood outside the door a few mins. In the gym is where the OT/PT office area is. Sam kept trying to get in there and I kept taking him out and telling him No. Upon being put down he hit me and threw his body into mine.
As it turns out Sam is delayed in speech. And has sensory issues too. Though he is sensory defensive instead of being a seeker like Curtis is. He is unaware of his body in space. And with his love to hide in tunnels and under blankets it's his way of saying there is too much space for him to comfortable in. He prefers tight areas. So what does this mean? Because next month he turns 3 he can't get early intervention. He gets to start school and will attend KLS just like his brothers do!!!!!! He will get speech and OT. I have his CPSE meeting the 12th to get things started and going for him! I hope he can start right away and not have to wait for summer school to start cause that will push it all back until July. I did not have this blog 2 yrs ago when he burned his hands with coffee (story for another day). He did and he is not scared. However they think his hand movements and grasp and use of his hands are not where they should be for his age so the team wants a physical therapist to evaluate his hands cause he may need physical therapy to gain strength and use his hands properly. This was the only shock to me because I didn't realize that he was not using his fingers/hands properly until they pointed it out to me. Had I known we would have checked it out way way way before now. We still have time to help him all around though! I'm glad we had this done and now I hold the ball to get this all set up for him! 11 days is not to far off!!!! I fought for his brothers and it won't be any diffrent with Sam! I know the process and know how to word everything in such away that the board can't argue with me! In fact there have been times where the board jokes about me being paid to say things the way I do. No it comes from experience and listening and learning along the way! Curtis paved the way for Gregory and Curtis and Gregory paved the way for Sam! I'm going to have a field day with the board! *evil laughing*

Sam and I walked 4 blocks to meet Daddy on his lunch break so he could bring us back home. I thought I was dieing with just 2 blocks. Ha! You know you are out of shape when you just about pass out after walking 4 blocks. When your heart is racing as if you ran in a marothon. And when you know that you used to walk 5 miles daily. Need to start walking again. So Sam starts school and I start walking. That is the plan anyways!

Yeah! That is awesome!!

We were surprised by a PT recommendation for our Little Guy and learned that for him, he needed to work on trunk control and postural stability. Not sure if that would apply to Sammy, but every little bit of ammunition (I mean information) is good going into an IEP meeting!
