Dear Little Man,

Today is a big day for you! You are now 7 years old and I can't figure out where the time has gone! Seems like just yesterday we carefully dressed you in this family outfit. Everyone on your dad's side of the family came home in this outfit...including Daddy! The fabric was so fragile I was afraid I would be the one to rip it. You can't tell by looking at this picture that you were crying just minutes before! I held your hand cooing to you letting you that all is right in the world. You settled in and started to drift off to sleep. I let go of your hand just long enough for the picture to be taken. Right after you were so mad because of the flash going off and disturbing you. The blanket in the background has stars on it. Grandma bought you that blanket right after she got the news you were on your way! For months it was the only item we had for you! I still have it to this day! And for your first year of life this blanket was the only one you wanted to anywhere near you! The outfit is now put up as it's too frail to be worn again. On the way home you christened the gown with poo. When I told Grandma what you did she laughed about it and told me not to worry about it..she would get it out.
Little Man...you may not be so little anymore....but you will always be my Little Man. You may not like it anymore when I call you Little Man....it's just so hard to break 5 years worth of calling you Little Man. Do you know how you got that nickname? Our first month home no matter what when I was changing your diaper you would pee on me. Daddy would back up and say you better cover it up and I would never get anything in time. After many changes of clothes for the both of us I sat down with you on my knee and had a chat. You know Little Man you need to stop peeing on me with every single diaper change. Got to give Mommy a chance even just a small one to let me change you without peeing on me. You never did pee on me again after that. And Little Man stuck.
You and I have been on on a roller coaster since you were born. And I don't ever want to get off the ride! I have enjoyed every single minute of it! From the colic to the meltdowns you have today when you can't go outside because it's raining with thunder and lightening! From you learning how to crawl to learning how to read. I have enjoyed watching you practice and practice never wanting to give it up even when you were too tired to continue! When you were learning to walk you never wanted to be in the stroller when we went for walks. You insisted that you had to walk. And when your legs got too tired you would crawl. I would pick you up and tantrums would follow. Put you in the stroller and strangers would stop and talk to you wondering what all the noise was about. I interfered with your learning. I learned to just give you your time and space so you can learn and only helping when you needed me to.
You are an amazing boy. You have an eagerness to learn......and someday that will take you far in life! You don't have time to slow down and I love that about you! I want you to continue on the path you are on because it's the right one for you! Don't ever let anyone slow you down or hold you back! No matter what anyone ever says..you can do anything you put your mind to. And I look forward to many more years of learning along side you a long the way. And truth be told...I can't wait to see what the future brings for you!

Happy 7th Birthday Little Man,
Love always Mom
